Starving. His Beast is starving, and Tobias knows it. As the days go on and he can't seem to find a decent something to feed on, he knows what's going to happen. He knows, and he tries to drag himself out somewhere in the middle of the night where he can sleep, far away from anyone he knows.

He doesn't make it very far. His Beast's exhaustion and need to feed catches up to him, and he holes up in an abandoned house at the edge of the Sixth. He doesn't have much on him, but that's more in case someone finds him and tries to rob him. He curls up against a wall and closes his eyes, dropping off to sleep.

And inside the realm of nightmares, the great hawk shrieks to the skies and bursts pasts its barriers to hunt.

It sends a mess of muddled pictures -

(trees, darkness, anger, fear fear fear, tears and blood and the darkness)

- but nothing that makes any sense. It shrieks in frustration, right in Ryoji's face. Good thing that dream eardrums are more durable than real ones?

It's still loud, making Ryoji wince. But he's still trying, and will keep doing so as long as he can. "Nature?" he ventures, feeling like he's grasping at straws, "And darkness?"

It stops screeching, and looks at him. Closer... sort of right. It scratches at the ground, and nudges at him again. There's the feeling of traveling... it's not really clear, but it's linked with the path feeling.

It takes a long moment, Ryoji desperately trying to decipher it. But he thinks he finally gets it. "...There's a path you have to follow, that brought you to me," he says, "And... do you need my fear before you can go?"

It tilts its head, letting out something close to a growl or a purr. It moves as if it's going to attack him with a talon, but... doesn't.

It should try to feast here. It's wasting energy here. But the human whose soul it took feels... attached here. It clicks its beak in frustration, unable to send a clear message of what it means.

Even the wind has died down now, leaving the scene quiet and... well. Somewhat peaceful.

Even if it is, Ryoji's trying to think of how to help. "Do you have to scare me with something in particular?" he asks, "Because, that might be hard, but... I'm scared of being alone? And hurting people I care about. If that helps."

It huffs and closes its eyes, settling down on the grass like a giant cat. There's not enough things here to take away. And being alone is one avenue, but with its little Cousin over there... it probably won't work.

Irritated, it shoves at Ryoji a bit, but just ends up flopped on its belly rather than transferring any actual force.

...Poor thing. Ryoji feels really back for it. He'll bend down and gently pet the bird, trying to comfort it, if that was even possible.

It freezes, eyes immediately springing open. It does not attack, but it does seem to almost... vibrate, projecting nothing but confusion and a strange 'erk' from the back of its throat.

Ryoji smiled, and just keeps up the petting. See, it's nice! Pets are great! Everything is fine.

It seems to... well it's not calming down, but it at least seems to grumpily settle. It closes one eye, the other one staring at Thanatos again, and then Ryoji.

There's a feeling of need, and it cuts across, suddenly clearly - fire and smoke. People falling to their knees, looking up in horror and fear. People holding others close.

Look up. Look up, because ruin can come from the skies. Look up and see what is coming, and value the things that are truly important. What you weep for does not matter, in the end. Everything crumbles to dust.

Ah...

Ryoji smiles gently at it, still stroking its head. That does sound very familiar. "I know," he says quietly, "Everything ends, eventually. That's why we need to live with what we love while we have the chance." It's something he knows keep down in his core. "...Is Tobias doing ok, if you're this hungry?"

It... well. It doesn't seem calm, but it does seem a bit more satisfied. Even if there's still hunger pouring out of it in waves...

Oh. It was asked a question. It raises one of its wings in a half-shrug. I am him and he is me. We are together. I am hungry. He is hungry.

Oh. Ryoji doesn't want either of them to be hungry. "Are you sure I can't help you feed at all? I'm sorry, I guess... not a lot really scares me anymore." Especially not the knowledge that everything will end.

It snorts a bit, nudging him gently. It's pretty sure Ryoji knows the answer is 'no' by now.

... But it really does need to feed. It stretches a bit, rolling onto its side a bit before wobbling back to its feet. It... does need to hunt.

Ryoji lets go of it as it stretches, watching it get back to its feet. "Good luck, ok?" he says, sensing what the creature might be able to. He really can't help, and that does make him sad. Hopefully the Beast and Tobias will be ok.

It nudges him again, and casts a glance at Thanatos, before taking off and flying back towards the bridge. He can make that into a path again. He's got to find some more mortal prey.
