Corwin may in fact be slowly and carefully chasing that dog, trying not to spook it, or to spook it back in the direction of the animal enclosure. He spots Ryoji and waves, but doesn't speak, not wanting to disturb the poor animal. Cats are his favorite, of course, but he still likes other animals as well, and he hates to upset any of them unless they're causing trouble.
